Not as funny as the podcast, this book still carries the underhanded humor of the authors. Possibly my favorite part was the map of Canadian regions - beneath the provinces is a big section labelled "You Know Who." That made me laugh out loud. The readings did make me chuckle at times but did not carry the memorable stories that I hear in the podcasts. I HIGHLY recommend checking out the archives of the podcast - they will frequently force you to rethink Canadian humor.

The This is That radio program on CBC is terrific. The individual segments are well-conceived and well-executed. Even the weaker bits are full of whimsy. I would recommend the show with five stars to anyone. This book, on the other hand, is not funny. Not even mildly amusing. It is SO different from the radio program is that I suspect Pat K. and Peter O. hired someone to write it for them. What a disappointment!! I awarded an extra star just because I admire their efforts on the radio. Stick to your knitting, eh?

I purchased this book when I saw the sub-title, "Discover the Hidden Life of Flowers". For anyone who wants to know more about flowering plant families and see some stunning photographs of flowers, get this book. The author writes about 28 different flowering plant families. Reading about each one is like talking to a family member who knows all about the rest of the family ~ who belongs in the family, who belonged once before but has been cast out, their quirks, their foibles, all kinds of interesting tidbits. The pictures are amazing, showing lots of details that we often miss, even when we are holding the flower in our hand. Even the captions for the photos contain great info and should not be skipped over. I think that gardeners of all levels of experience will find this book to be readable, enjoyable, and useful. Plant addicts should be warned that this book will definitely feed your addiction and you'll read about more plants that you want to have in your garden.

It's beautiful. I borrowed a library copy before ordering, so I knew what to expect. I am both an amateur artist and a lover of weeds, seeds, and cultivated beauty. I did a painting of the clover in this book and already sold it. Also have done the poppy and pansy. The photography is amazing, inspiring! Plus the text is full of good information. I love this book and hope to also buy Seeing Trees.

Book arrived in like new condition. Author is knowledgeable and easily understandable. I recommend this intricate look at flowers up close!

I have just received this beautiful book and can tell already that it will be a favorite among my coffee table books. Can't wait to spend more time with it very soon.

Photos are awesome with loads of detail and color. Shipped with protective plastic wrap - be careful removing: cover page can tear when opening/removing wrap as it might stick (static electricity) to plastic wrap so be careful. Book will be a very useful resource.

Stunning photos! Unfortunately the text seems almost unrelated.

The pictures showed the anatomy of different flowers by families. The text supported the picture by discussing the characteristics of each family. Other members of the family were discussed in the text to illustrate the diversity within the family. This is one of those books which you can pick up and put down after enjoying the pictures then pick it up again to read the text of one family then another family. I really enjoyed this book. I like the scientifically correctness of this book. since I am a Horticulture PhD

Alexa hopes to pursue a degree in math, physics or computer science followed by a career as a Cryptologist. Dan Twibell (Alexa’s father) is an executive in the healthcare industry. He has done extensive research on Gifted Youth Topics, and like many parents, came to realize that practical resources and guidance is hard to find. Astounding scholarship. I am a non-academic with broad interests in art history, history, and art connoisseurship, and am fairly widely read in the history of the Rennaissance. The chapter on Botticelli's Primavera is one of the greatest pieces of art history criticism I have ever come across. For anyone who is interested in the meanings of paintings and their iconography, this book is a must. Also, I would recommend Jean Seznec's 'The Survival of the Pagan Gods" as a companion piece. As an aside, these works, especially the Wind, give further credence to Johan Huizenga's theories elaborated in "The Waning/Autumn of the Middle Ages".

Wind's book is a hard slog and there are times when reading it requires No-Doz; however, his analysis of Botticelli's Primavera is fascinating.
